MiMi's chandelier ReNu program allows you to recycle unwanted or
broken chandeliers and other lighting for MiMi Points. MiMi Points are redeemable towards the purchase of any MiMi design product. There is
no time limit on when
your points can be redeemed.
Some years ago I helped an elderly couple to resolve some personal matters. When we were done they insisted on being billed but I declined. A few days later they telephoned to say they had a token of their appreciation and reminded me it would be in poor taste to refuse them. The next day the pair arrived at my home with an old chandelier in desperate need of some TLC. How they had come to own it was now a bit of a mystery but they made me promise to give it a new, loving home. This time I agreed and in restoring this chandelier to its former glory, my love affair with chandeliers began. Random acts of kindness do come back to you in spades.
At MiMi Designs we believe it is our responsibility to do right by Mother Nature. Our committment to the environment is based on these principles:
Recycling whenever possible, all broken down chandeliers destine for landfills around the globe. If you know of an unwanted chandelier email info@mimidesigns.ca.
Conserving electricity by using energy efficient and low watt electric candles in our chandeliers and lightoliers whenever possible.
Reliable resource of information about all your chandelier concerns including replacement bulbs, installation, cleaning, and the latest trends in lighting design.

July 2011, MiMi Road Trip to Vegas
While most people go to Vegas for the glitz and glam, my version of it is a little different - it's all about the bling. From the Murano and Fortuny inspirations in the latest luxury Wynn hotel to the old time glimmer and shimmer of the Hilton Hotel, there is an inspiration for every taste from every era. By far the most spectacular is the Chandelier Bar in the Crystal Hotel, and yes they are real crystals.
December 2010, MiMi Studies Fabric Design
MiMi enrolls in Fashion Design program at local university to study surface design. After my visit to the Fortuny Museum in Venice, a new goal for MiMi Designs is to create signature MiMi fabrics using devore, silkscreening and shibori textile design techniques used by the Spanish master Mariano Fortuny.
July 2010, MiMi Buying Trip to NYC
MiMi makes a buying trip to the Big Apple, NYC on the hunt for unique embellishments for our chandeliers and custom lamp shades. Like a kid in the world's largest candy store - the bead and embellishment districts in midtown Manhattan, there was so much to see and be inspired by.
June 2009, MiMi Visits Murano
My visit to the island of Murano was both inspirational and sad. Today only a handful of operating glass ovens remain on the island. Most of what you see is made elswhere and much of it in China. During my private tour of the Fornace Gino Mazzuccato, my delightful host Paolo took me on a historical journey of splendor in glass ranging from 20ft antique Venetian art glass mirrors from the 19th century to the lastest in glass sculpture. When you are in Murano be sure to stop by and say hello to Paolo - he and his glassworks are an absolute must see.
February 2009, MiMi Studies Lampworking
Winter heats up to about 2400 degrees while MiMi studies lampworking with production glass expert Mike Montanti of Seattle, Washington. A graduate of Salem's four year scientific glass program in New Jersey, Mike put MiMi through the paces in the design and the science of producing art glass. During the one-on-one workshops MiMi experimented with new techniques in glassblowing and colour application, fuming, fusing, and enamelling.
September 2008, MiMi Studies Metal Art
Metal jewelery artist Vicky Wilson tutors MiMi during an intensive three day workshop at Vicky's design studio in Portland, Oregon. During their private hands-on workshop Vicky graciously shared her signature style jewelery techniques in metalwork sculpture and finishes with MiMi.
July 2008, MiMi Studies at Hubay Lighting Studio
During the month of July MiMi has had the pleasure and priviledge of spending time with lighting maestro Miklos Hubay of the Hubay Lighting studio. While there Mr. Hubay shared his vast knowledge of lighting design and coached MiMi on many of the advanced techniques he has developed in the past 40 years while creating his award-winning custom lighting.
June 2008, MiMi Completes Purchase of Hubay Lighting
